If you’ve never been to Ocean City before, your first vacation is going to be an eye opener into a world that’s filled with more fireworks than on the 4th of July! Okay – so maybe not more than the 4th, but still a sufficient amount to make you want to come back and visit again. If it’s one thing Ocean City is known for it’s the array of attractions and events that go on in the city every year. From the above-mentioned fireworks (that actually happen on the beach) to its numerous yearly festivals – we’ve managed to narrow down the Best City Attractions and Events in Ocean City so that you can be fully prepared for your vacation:
Let the fireworks begin – fireworks on the beach that is! From July 6 to August 25, there will be Beach Fireworks every Monday and Tuesday starting at 10 p.m. in Ocean City. Whether you’re walking down the board or just sitting outside, the fireworks will light up the sky, and your night!
Sundaes in the Park & Fireworks
What better way to end your Summer Sunday nights than with Sundaes! Sundaes in the Park takes place at Northside Park 125th Street from mid July to the end of August from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. For a small fee, you can create your own ice cream sundae with delicious toppings while enjoying the free family concert series offered Sunday evenings. As if that isn’t enough, a wonderful fireworks display will commence at the end of the night.
What do you call four fun-filled days of delicious food, arts and crafts, hayrides, kids activities and musical entertainment? Ocean City’s biggest and best festival of course – Sunfest! Admission is completely free and festival activities are held in the Inlet Lot at the south end of Ocean City’s famous Boardwalk (South 1st Street, Ocean City, MD). Sunfest is Ocean City’s most popular festival and is rated #1 of the 100 Best Classic & Contemporary Craft Shows in the country by Sunshine Artist Magazine – America’s Premier Art & Craft Show Magazine. Come have a blast celebrating the sun and the end of Summer in Ocean City, the festival hours are Thursday – Saturday, 10am – 10pm and Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. The festival includes chart topping evening headline acts, food from over 30 different food vendors and children’s activities are available on Saturday and Sunday. This year Sunfest will take place on September 24 – 27, 2015.
- Free parking is available at the West Ocean City Park & Ride. Park free & ride shuttle bus to Sunfest for $1.
- Ride the Boardwalk Tram to the Inlet for $3 each way.
- Express trolley shuttles will depart from the south lot of the Roland E. Powell Convention Center at 40th Street (free parking). Trolley shuttle fares: ride all day for $3 or $1 per boarding.
- Free parking at the Public Safety Building on 65th St, Northside Park on 125th St or Municipal Lot on 100th St. Then ride the bus to Sunfest. Bus fares: ride all day for $3 or $1 per boarding.
April Showers bring May Flowers! And what else happens in May? Springfest – the four day kick off to Summer season extravaganza festival filled with delicious food, indoor and outdoor stages for music featuring the best local and national recording acts, crafts, and more activities the entire family can enjoy! Springfest takes place at the south end of the Boardwalk usually during Mother’s Day weekend, May 7-10. The festival is free to attend and with the numerous events and activities available, it is sure to be a memorable time for everyone. Festival hours are Thursday – Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
White Marlin Open
The World’s Largest Billfish Tournament takes place right here in Ocean City, the White Marlin Capital of the World! The fish are phenomenal and the prizes get bigger every year for the biggest white marlin. Prizes are also awarded for other types of fish and new categories are added every year. The White Marlin Open is always the first full week of August, with registration occurring during the weekend immediately prior. In upcoming years, this will be: August 8-12, 2016 (actual fishing days) and August 7-11, 2017 (actual fishing days). The White Marlin Open is also exciting for spectators. All fish must be weighed on the official scale at Harbour Island, (14th Street and the Bay), and the weigh-ins are held there each day of the tournament from 4:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. and are open to the public free of charge. Be prepared – there is no parking available at Harbour Island. The Presbyterian Church on 14th Street, just a block away, offers parking for a small donation. Parking is also available at Holy Savior Church on 17th Street. There will also be a “Park and Ride Shuttle Service” offered from the Ocean City Convention Center parking lot.
Winterfest of Lights
Just because the summer eventually ends doesn’t mean the fun has to, especially in Ocean City! Winterfest of Lights is November 20th – January 4th at Northside Park, 125th Street & the Bay from Sunday-Thursday 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $5.00 for adults and children 12 years and older and free for those 11 years old and younger. Voted “Maryland’s Finest Holiday Tradition” by Maryland Life Magazine, the dazzling display of lights, Santa Clause on sight for pictures with the kids, and free train rides around the display of thousands of holiday lights are sure to create warm smiles and fun. Don’t worry if you do get a bit chilly though – you can always stroll over ad enjoy some delicious hot chocolate from The OC Recreation Boosters Café. The tree lighting ceremony and special grand opening, which will feature free rides on the Winterfest Express train, will take place November 19, 2015 this year at 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Clause will also make her first appearance at this years fest so you don’t want to miss it!
