You’ve made a great decision because Ocean City, Maryland is a beautiful place to visit just about any time of year, but it’s especially fun during the summertime.
Now that you’ve committed to visiting OC, you have to figure out how you’re going to get here. You may decide to take a plane if you’re coming from the West Coast and you don’t feel like driving for many days in a row. Or if you feel you’re relatively close enough, you may decide that driving is the best option since gas prices are relatively low right now so it’s definitely an affordable option.
With that in mind, we will take a look at the best ways to get to Ocean City from a number of different parts of the United States. In fact, if you really think about it, you should have no trouble visiting this awesome summer vacation destination from anywhere in the world.
Visiting Ocean City from the Northeast US
So, if you live in the northeastern part of the United States in places like New York City, Trenton New Jersey, and Philadelphia Pennsylvania, there is a simple and easy way to find your way to Ocean City, Maryland without any trouble at all.
In fact, the best thing to do is to take I-95 South until you hit northern Delaware. Obviously, depending where you live, you’ll have to figure out how to get to I-95 on your own. But once you get to I-95, it’s ultimately a straight shot all the way to northern Delaware.
Once you reach northern Delaware, you want to get off at exit 4A. This exit is marked Christiana Mall. After you get off the exit, you want to get onto Delaware Route 1, which will take you south toward Dover. Next, you must get on US 113 S. You are going to take this into Maryland, turn east, and take either US 50 or Route 90 to get to Ocean City.
Visiting Ocean City from the Southeast US
If you’re visiting Ocean City from the Southeast US in places like Washington DC, or Richmond Virginia, it’s going to be easier to get to Ocean City than from many other locations. In fact, you should get there from anywhere to 3 to 5 hours depending on your starting point.
To start off, you have to take either I-95 or 495 N. to get to the Capital Beltway. Take the Capital Beltway all the way to exit 19A. From this exit, you will take US 50 E. toward Annapolis. You should follow this road all the way across the Bay Bridge. Once you do that, you will be able to take a straight shot directly into Ocean City.
Visiting Ocean City If You’re Coming from Baltimore
For those trying to get to Ocean City, Maryland directly from Baltimore, it’s going to take about 150 miles and three hours to get to your vacation destination.
To start off, you will take I-695 known as the Baltimore Beltway to Exit 4. From there, you are going to take I-97 toward Annapolis and follow itself all the way to Exit 1.
Next, at this point you’re going to turn east on US 50/301. Follow it east all the way across the Bay Bridge. And once you do this, you can take it straight into Ocean City, Maryland to get to your vacation spot.
Visiting Ocean City from Western Maryland
For those of you going Ocean City from Western Maryland, it’s going to take about four hours for the total trip and it’s a little bit over 200 miles.
To start off, take I-70 E. directly toward Baltimore. From there, you are going to take exit 91 S. which will take you to the Baltimore Beltway also known as I-695. From this point, you should take I-695 and get off at Exit 4 which will take you to I-97 S.
At I-97 S., you’re going to take it all away down Exit 1. From there, you should turn east onto US 50/301. During the final leg of the trip, you will stay on US 50 E. and go across the Bay Bridge. From there, you will go directly into Ocean City, Maryland.
Visiting Ocean City from Central Pennsylvania
If you’re coming to Ocean City from Central Pennsylvania, you’ll have a relatively enjoyable ride that will take around 4 to 4 ½ hours in total.
When you start off, get on I-83 S. and head toward Baltimore. From there, get on the Baltimore Beltway also known as I-695, head west, and merge onto I-695. At this point you’re going to take I-695 to exit for and get onto I-97 S. heading toward Annapolis.
While on I-97 keep going until you reach Exit 1 and head east onto US 50/301. Continue on this road until you go across the Bay Bridge which will take you directly into Ocean City, Maryland.
Visiting Ocean City from Pittsburgh
When you’re coming to Ocean City from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, expect to drive for a good seven hours and 350 miles.
When you start off your journey, you’ll take I-376 to Exit 15. From there you are going to head east on I-76 also known as the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
While on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, you are to take it all away to Exit 12 at Breezewood. Follow the signs east to East I-70 and take it all the way to Exit 91 S. and get onto the Baltimore Beltway.
From here, you’re to take I-695 a.k.a. the Baltimore Beltway to Exit 4. When you get off the exit, get on to I-97 S. and take it to Exit 1. Once you get off Exit 1, go east to US 50/301, cross the Bay Bridge, and drive directly into Ocean City.
