Each course offers something uniquely different, whether they’re entry-level courses or world-class challenges that are guaranteed to stump even the most experienced scratch golfer. With nearly 20 courses, some that have found their way into the top 100 courses you can play in the United States, Ocean City, Maryland has rapidly become one of the premier golfing hubs in the country. It has even been heralded by many as the new Myrtle Beach, which, until recently, was considered by many to be the golf capital of the world.
BEST GOLF COURSES IN OCEAN CITY
With so many options for playing a round, a few courses stand out as superior to the rest. Two must-play courses are the Links at Lighthouse Sound and Bayside Resort and Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course—both of which have stunning views of the Ocean City Skyline from across the bay. Rum Pointe, a Scottish-style links, is the only Ocean City area course featuring bent grass on the fairways and greens. It also boasts unrivaled views of the bay at 17 out of the 18 holes, with several holes having direct bay frontage, where you can start your ball over the water to shorten the hole. This challenging course can host PGA-caliber players from the back tees but is forgiving enough from the middle tees to satisfy golfers of any skill level.
Some notable mentions are the Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club, which has 27 holes defined by dunes that are covered with wild seagrass, the perfect trap if you’re looking for an added challenge; and Baywood Greens, a short drive north to Longneck, which has earned comparisons to Augusta National in Georgia for its immaculate conditions and has been lauded for its meticulous landscaping. GlenRiddle’s War Admiral Course has rugged, breathtaking bunkers reminiscent of golf’s great past and is routed through mature pine forests and offers a completely different golf experience. With its two distinct 18s—one with Scottish accents, the other cut through tall pines, a distinct and challenging course. Eagle’s Landing is one of the top municipal courses in the nation. It includes a bevy of public-access tracks that remain vital, including the 36-hole Bay Club, Beach Club Golf Links, and Gary Player’s underrated River Run Golf Course. One of the oldest clubs in the area, Ocean City Golf Club, boasts 36 holes, including the notorious Newport Bay Course.
No matter your level of skill or experience, there’s guaranteed to be a course in the Ocean City, Maryland area that will suit your needs.
