When the summer ends in Ocean City, MD, it doesn’t mean that the fun has to stop. In fact, fall may be the best time to schedule a visit. The ocean water is still warm, and the weather is usually mild, allowing for lots of fun fall activities. However, the busy season is over, so the city and the beaches are usually less crowded. There are specific organized events on the beach or elsewhere. You can also explore on your own and find your own fall fun.

Having the Best Fall Season in Ocean City

Fall weather in Ocean City, MD, is typically cool or chilly rather than really cold. This is partly because of its proximity to the ocean, which holds onto the heat longer. The mild weather facilitates fall activities and events held throughout the season, which locals and visitors enjoy.

When it comes to events, Sunfest has been held for over 40 years as a way to mark the transition between summer and fall. Among the family-friendly games and fall activities available during Sunfest is the Kite Festival. During Sunfest, there are also opportunities to purchase souvenirs from local vendors, concessions, and live entertainment.

Other fall events happening in Ocean City, MD, include O.C.toberfest, Halloween Spook-Out Party, and the Great Pumpkin Race involving jack-o’-lanterns mounted on wheels and carved into racecars.

Beach Events

The beach is always a place to have fun and relax. During the fall, it is nearly as warm as the summer, which is why there is an entire category of special events that take place here every year. Family-friendly fall activities include events such as Big Toys on the Boardwalk, during which muscle cars, race boats, emergency vehicles, construction equipment, and other types of vehicles are parked and available for people to see up close. Get your picture taken behind the wheel, or just climb up inside for a close-up look.

During O.C.toberfest, you can explore the Halloween Beach Maze from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The giant maze is populated with all sorts of scary denizens, including ghouls, witches, and pirates, making it even more exciting to escape.

With a charitable donation, you can participate in a treasure hunt at the beach and find gift certificates, jewelry, and other prizes. This activity is only for people at least 18 years of age, but proceeds benefit the Believe in Tomorrow’s Children Foundation.

Exploring Ocean City on Your Own

Organized fall activities are fun, but you may not be able to schedule your visit to correspond with them. If not, there are still plenty of ways to have fun in the city on your own during your visit. For example, if you play golf, now is the time to do it because the weather is perfect.

Flying kites on the beach is a popular activity, so much so that you can find a kite shop right on the beach to purchase a new one if you did not bring one with you. This is a great family activity.

Stretching for three miles, the boardwalk has something for everyone, from arcade games to rides to food. Served with malt vinegar, ketchup, and Old Bay Seasoning, Thrashers Fries are a local favorite popular with visitors as well.
